ABSTRACT

@#The practice of safe and effective nursing care is what a Bachelor of Science in Nursing graduate can provide based on the established competencies of the curriculum. However, they need to be on the list of registered nurses before entry into practice. This study analyzed the academic and licensure examination performances of Bachelor of Science in Nursing graduates in a state college to ascertain relationships and predictors of the licensure examination as the basis for future planning. Descriptive-retrospective design was utilized where 208 graduates who took their licensure examination from 2013 to 2017 were conveniently chosen. Statistical Package for Social Sciences Version 22.0 was used where Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient and Simple Regression Analysis were employed. The academic and nurse licensure performances of graduates were found lower than the ideal and are opposite in terms of skewness and kurtosis. Moreover, a strong positive relationship was noted between the graduates' performances in their academics and licensure examinations. 5 from 21 nursing courses are significant predictors with strong unique contributions to the nurse licensure examination at which 2 from the 5 were found common in all parts of the examination. Thus, it is vital to always look into predictors as basis in the modification of institutional policy on curriculum implementation.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the weight for the training target of Applied nursing undergraduate. And find the degree of importance for the indexes of the target , thus highlighting theApplied training objective characteristics. Methods Developed by Bloom's teaching objectives classification theory and educational objectives theory to refined indexes, using Delphi method to establish the Applied nursing undergraduate training objectives. By the importance assignment from experts on each index, using analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method to construct the judgment matrix. Then calculate the weight of each index weight, and test its logical consistency. Results The weight of theattitudes and valueswas 0.56, andknowledgeandabilitywere 0.22. For the secondary indicators, in the values dimension, professional attitudeandideological qualityhad relatively high weight.Under the knowledge dimension, the professional knowledge had the highest weight; and for the ability dimension, communication skillsandapplicationswere heavily maximum. All the random consistency rates (CR) for the indexes were less than 0.10, so there was no logical confusion. ConclusionsAppliednursing undergraduate talents need to combine theory and practice quickly into clinical work. By weight setting, this study provides basis to further quantify and highlight the Applied nursing undergraduate training features, and provides the basis for the application-oriented undergraduate nursing personnel reforms.

ABSTRACT

Aim: The environment of the nursing program dean or director within a community college or state university can be politically, fiscally, and emotionally challenging. There are few studies that investigate that environment. The purpose of this study was to describe the major barriers and incentives facing these nursing deans or directors as they implemented their proposed interventions related to the Central Valley Nursing Diversity Project. Additionally, we sought to identify successful strategies used to keep the programs competitive for resources and status within their institutions and within their local communities. Methodology: The study is descriptive; the data collection method was structured interviews and data were analyzed using content analysis. Findings: Findings indicate that among the most difficult barriers faced by the directors and the faculty was the over subscribed status (more applicants than positions) of the programs. The deans or directors described three significant points that acted as barriers. These were 1) limited space in science laboratory pre-requisite courses, 2) limited classroom space in nursing courses, and 3) limited space in clinical (hospital) sites. The largest single external pressure reported was the reduction in funding and all deans or directors indicated they had difficulty hiring qualified or credentialed faculty. Conclusion: Colleges must manage more effectively student demand by modifying admissions criteria to be more selective and admit students with greater likelihood of graduating; encourage innovative partnerships between employers and schools of nursing; and increasing funding for nursing faculty salaries, classrooms, and laboratories.
